Something Special To Me

12/08/2009

By mikebaird on Flickr

It was a nice summer day in 2005. The sky was clear and the birds were out flying in the light blue sky. Children were playing as cars of every color and shape were driving by. As usual, my great gandmother and I were sitting on the front porch and talking about her life as a child and how she wanted my life to be. As the sun was beaming on my face my great grandmother handed me a box with silver lining. Inside the box was a pair of earrings and a bracelet.

The bracelet was gold and had little red hat charms hanging around it. The earrings were gold with red trim around them. I love the gift that my great grandmother gave me.

On January 19, 2006 my great grandmother passed away. I could remember her smile on the day that she gave me my precious gift. Oh yes there were some things that we couldn’t agree on, but at the same time I loved her and the ways that she talked to me when I would do wrong things. But I could at least remember all the times that we shared a happy and pleasant conversation.

My World, My Mistake, My Life

11/16/2009

I was born in April of 1993. I was a spring baby, and like any other child I looked very innocent and cute. When I was a child I always wanted the best. The best clothes,  jewelry, shoes, and even the best lipstick. As time was passing me by, and as I was growing, I soon began to realize that school was the only way that I could succeed. Many times I wonder when violence will stop.

Many times I wonder when my hero will come to save me

Many times I wonder why I came upon a world of no love no heart ship.

Many times I wonder when I will make a change to society.

Sometimes I feel left out

Sometimes it’s just me

Sometimes it’s just the people

Sometimes it’s just YOU!!!!

Why is my life so complicated?

Why am I being judged at when I walk?

Why am I being judged when I talk?

I am a girl

I am a female

I am brave

I am smart

I am strong

I am antecedent to my life.

I am a person

I can make a change

I will make a change

I am hidden from my shadow.

I wrote this poem from my point of view on things that I have experienced, such as violence and people that have committed crimes. It addresses violence in Chicago and people that are facing violence in Chicago.

My HOOD: Englewood

11/02/2009

As a young teen growing up in the Englewood neighborhood, located in the South Side of Chicago,  I have witnessed plenty of violence and poverty.  Englewood is not like any old neighborhood. Englewood has a history of violence, gang, and lack of education.  I believe Englewood is better now than it used to be. There has been some housing development, more police patrols and new diverse people. Read the rest of this entry ?
